THERAPY AND EVALUATION SERVICES
Autism
We take a neurodiversity affirming approach to speech therapy for autistic individuals. This means that we respect that autism is a neurotype (a different type of brain) that may present with unique strengths, needs, and challenges. It is our goal to follow your child's lead and interact together during their favorite activities because children communicate best when their needs are met and they are engaged!
Early Language
Parent involvement is key for early language development. We empower you - parents - to use helpful language strategies during your everyday routines and play times. Whether your child has yet to speak their first word or they need help to start forming longer sentences, we have the tools and resources to help you support their language skills with confidence. Together, we can help your child find their voice!
AAC
We advocate for the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems for children who are non-speaking or those who need additional support to communicate. High-tech and low-tech AAC options can support your child in becoming an independent communicator by allowing them to express themselves more easily, connect with others in their lives, and participate fully in social interactions and activities at school, at home, and within their community.
MEET KATIE
Katie Forbes, M.A., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
I am a passionate speech therapist with over 5 years of experience working with children in outpatient multidisciplinary clinics, home health care settings, and private practice.

I started my private practice because I wanted to be able to take the time necessary to build relationships with every child and family that I work with. I am intentional about creating a therapeutic environment that builds upon your child's unique strengths, interests, challenges, and goals. As a mom myself, I understand wanting the absolute best for your child. With this in mind, I strive to hold space for families with empathy for the struggles that may come with parenting a child with special needs.
I earned my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Western Michigan University and obtained my Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Eastern Michigan University. Throughout my career, I have become specialized in the neurodiverse communication needs of children on the autism spectrum, early childhood language development, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family (as well as two dogs and two cats), practicing yoga, traveling, and doing all sorts of outdoor activities!

Step 2
Services will begin with an initial evaluation which allows us to determine your child's strengths as well as areas where they need additional support. We will develop a treatment plan with individualized goals that align with your specific concerns and family priorities.

““Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”
